App Redesign

App Redesign ⋆
the problem
For this app redesign, we were tasked with finding a mobile app that we believe could be improved with an updated design. I worked on the app, Soundex, that allows the user to keep a catalog of all the concerts that have been to in the past. The app was not as user friendly as it could be and the interface did not appear as professional.

the process
The first step to this redesign was starting content analysis. I analyzed the app in it’s current state and made note of where I saw room for improvement. Competitive analysis was also key to understanding the app and those similar to it. I also competed user research to be able to focus on what the user would want to see from the app.
I created multiple IA Diagrams throughout this step of the process. One for the current state of the app, one rearranged version, and one version with the new additions.
After I familiarized myself with the app and apps like it, I created 3 user goals to focus on when designing:
Watch video that your friend uploaded from your concert last night
Add show that you are at right now
Be able to preview a venue for future events
These three user flows were then mapped out in diagrams.
User flow 1
User flow 2
User flow 3
The next step was to create wireframes of each of the pages and engage in user testing. All the feedback was taken into consideration and the wireframes were revised.
User flow 1
User flow 2
User flow 3
Now it was time to design the app in Adobe XD. I created a brand board to keep track of the colors, typefaces, logos, and components I will be using on each page.
the solution
Once the design was finalized in XD, I began to prototype the elements. I used the tap trigger for the majority of the transitions to simulate hitting a button. I also chose to use transition rather than auto-animate for most of the interactions to have a cleaner flow throughout the app.

the impact
The focus of this project was improving the user experience and flow of an app. I had to analyze every aspect of the app to ensure it was designed in the most efficient way possible. This meant I needed to prioritize:
Navigation
Information Design
Patterns
This was the first mobile app redesign I have done and has definitely taught me a lot about how to organize information in a way that is easy to navigate.
